Crustal Evolution and Natural Resources

The School of Mines is one of the pioneer centers of Geology teaching  in Brazil. Its Department of Geology  (Departamento de Geologia - DEGEO) offers a Crustal Evolution and Natural Resources Graduate Program with master's and doctorate degrees focused on two concentration areas: 1) Tectonic, Petrogenesis, and Mineral resources (Tectônica, Petrogênese e Recursos Minerais - TPRM), and 2) Environmental Geology and Conservation of Natural Resources (Geologia Ambiental e Conservação de Recursos Naturais - GARN).

TPRM is aimed at professionals from the Engineering and Exact and Earth Sciences area, and has as lines of research: 1) Tecnonic, Petrogenesis, and Crustal Evolution of Cratonic and Orogen Areas; 2) Sedimentary Basins Analysis; 3) Applied Mineralogy; 4) Petrogenetic Processes and Isotope Geology; 5) Geology, Control, and Genesis of Mineral Deposits; and 6) Environmental Geology and Natural Resources. GARN is geared towards professionals who have graduated in areas such as Engineering, Exact and Earth Sciences, Agrarian Sciences, Biological Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, among others. This concentration area has as lines of research: 1) Environmental Impacts of Mining; 2) Environmental Geochemistry and Medical Geology; 3) Geomorphology and Pedogenesis; 4) Hydrogeology and Hydric Resources; 5) Geoecology and Recovery of Natural Systems and Geoconservation.
