Geotechnics

The Geotechnics Graduate Program (Programa de Pós-graduação em Geotecnia - POSGEO) is under the responsibility of the Geotechnics Research Center (Núcleo de Geotecnia - NUGEO), comprising the levels of academic master and doctorate.

POSGEO comprises studies and research related to Geotechnical Engineering, a branch of Engineering dedicated to the study of the characterization and behavior of materials and lithologies of Earth's crust for the purpose of implementing civil works. In this context, the proposal covers the application of scientific knowledge associated with the principles of Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, and Engineering Geology to analyze the behavior of civil works. The program includes seven different lines of research: 1) Geotechnics Applied to Mining; 2) Rock Mass Geotechnics; 3) Earthworks - Soil Stabilization and Strengthening; 4) Pavement Geotechnics; 5) Risk Management in Geotechnics and Natural Disasters; 6) Containment Geotechnics and Foundations Engineering; and 7) Hydrogeotechnics and Applied Geophysics.
