Mathematics Education

The Academic Master's in Mathematics Education (Mestrado Acadêmico em Educação Matemática - PPGEDMAT), approved in 2007 by CAPES, started its activities in 2008, as a Professional Master's and, at the end of 2019, it had trained more than 100 masters, having its evaluation by Capes with  grade  4. The program is notable by its efforts to combine graduate training, focused on "real" teaching practices, with the training of researchers, in order to offer the students the tools and skills that allow them to reflect on their own practices, as well as the practice of teaching in general, based on readings and studies that provide a solid theoretical foundation. In the concentration area of Mathematics Education, the program comprises three lines of research: 1) Curriculums and Training of Mathematics Teachers/Professors; 2) Teaching and Learning Mathematics Processes; and 3) History, Culture, and Inclusion in Mathematics Education. PPGEDMAT promotes, every year, the Meeting of Teaching and Research in Mathematical Education (Encontro de Ensino e Pesquisa em Educação Matemática - EEPEM) and has its own magazine, the REVEMOP.

In November 2020, CAPES approved the change of program Professional Master's to Academic Master's.
