The International Relations Office (DRI) welcomed the foreign students participating in the 25.2 academic semester, last week. During this period, UFOP is hosting 25 international students from Germany, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Guinea-Bissau, Mexico, and Russia.
The program included a lecture introducing the University, covering everything from the courses offered and the campuses’ overview to essential tips for adapting to the country. In the afternoon, the students took part in a guided tour of the historic center of Ouro Preto, where they explored the city’s cultural and tourist attractions.
For UFOP’s Director of International Relations, Anderson Gamarano, the occasion represents an important welcoming initiative. “In this first contact, we aim to give a positive impression about the institution and make ourselves available to the students,” Anderson explained.
Currently, UFOP hosts 164 international students enrolled in different academic modalities: Portuguese as a Foreign Language Preparatory Courses, Undergraduate Programs, Master’s and Doctoral Degrees, Regular Selection Processes, and Mobility Programs
Anderson points out that, despite the budgetary limitations faced by all Brazilian universities, “we keep the institution’s doors open to welcome these international students, and we have achieved a significant increase in the number of foreigners in the University. Today, UFOP hosts students from 34 nationalities, in a medium-sized university located in Minas Gerais countryside. I consider this a very relevant number, given these conditions” he emphasized.
