UFOP resumes in-person welcoming of international students at campuses

After two years away from the campus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are finally back! We were very glad and honored for welcoming some of our international students in person.

On March 15, two welcome meetings were held with graduate students in the Morro do Cruzeiro campus, located in Ouro Preto, aiming to present UFOP and provide orientation about academic life and about living in Brazil. Besides students and the International Relations Office (DRI Diretoria de Relações Internacionais) staff, Graduate Programs’ Coordinators also attended the meetings.

On March 14, an online meeting was held with students from the Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G Grupo de Cooperação Internacional de Universidades Brasileiras) with the participation of a Pedagogical Support Center representative from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies Office (PROGRAD Pró-Reitoria de Graduação).

Among students who had already started their courses remotely in 2021 and are starting in 2022, UFOP is hosting 31 students from 14 countries: Benin, Chile, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Netherlands, Honduras, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Venezuela, and Turkey.

The undergraduate programs Computer Science, Economic Sciences, Law, Pharmacy, and Medicine are receiving the PEC-G students. The following graduate programs are also receiving students: Performing Arts, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Law, Ecology of Tropical Biomes, Mathematics Education, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Crustal Evolution and Natural Resources, Philosophy, Geotechnics, History, and Chemistry.

Besides the regular selection processes, UFOP has been receiving students through partnerships. In 2022, these included students from the following programs: Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G) (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), aimed to undergraduate students; OAS-GCUB-PAHO and PROAFRI (a partnership with the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities – GCUB); Living Lab Biobased Brazil (Netherlands), and FARA/Tet-Fund (Nigeria), aimed to graduate students.

Overall, UFOP currently hosts 84 international students, from 29 countries, attending undergraduate and graduate activities in 43 programs.

DRI wishes a warm welcome to all students who start/return to their activities at UFOP's campuses and is available to provide support in order to contribute to their integration and stay at the University.
