Selected by the KDU Global Scholarship program, which grants financial aid to students, Computer Science undergraduate Iago Izidório Lacerda studied at Kyungdong University (경동대학교) in South Korea last semester. The only one of the three Brazilian representatives to complete the entire period of the academic mobility, Iago left his mark on the foreign institution, overcoming language and cultural barriers.
In addition to the subjects on the Smart Computing program, he says that he chose to study social psychology and contemporary Korean culture, in Korean, in order to truly understand his host country. “This experience was about overcome borders,” he reflects.
Iago also mentions that, through the Expression-oriented Korean Language Teaching Methods course (한국어표현교육법), he was able to consolidate an old passion: teaching. According to him, “teaching Korean, in Korean, was the challenge that cemented my love of teaching, a vocation that I had already cultivated in UFOP through teaching assistantship and extension projects.”
For his achievements, the Brazilian student was selected, among students from around 40 countries, as the main speaker of his class at KGIP 2024 - Session I. He was also invited to share his experiences in an interview for the Korean university official communication channels. “It was an honor to represent not only UFOP, but all Brazil's academic potential,” he says.
