Socioeconomic and Environmental Sustainability

The  Professional Master's in Socioeconomic Environmental Sustainability (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sustentabilidade Socioeconômica Ambiental - PPGSSA)  contributes to the formation of highly qualified professionals, capable of relating theoretical and applied knowledge in the challenging search for sustainability.

The program aims to provide excellence training to higher level professionals who work at the public sphere, at research and development centers, teaching institutions, companies, and non-governmental institutions. It is aimed at students graduated from the Engineering Sciences, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, and related areas, with Environmental Socioeconomic Sustainability backgrounds.

This program offers two concentration areas, namely: 1) Governance, Legislation, Economics, and Policies for Sustainability and 2) Environmental assessment and sustainable use of natural resources. Under the first area, are the following lines of research: a) Water and Genres; b) Communities and Social Ecology; c) Environmental Management and Sustainability, and d) Valuation of environmental Services. The second area covers the following lines of research: a) Areas Degraded by Miner-Metallurgical Industry; b) Energy and Sustainability; c) Environmental Geochemistry and Medical Geology; d) Hydrographic Basin Management; e) Hydrographic basin management, Pluri-sources Energy, Economy integrated with Ecology; ) f) Forest Industrialization; and g) Environmental Sanitation Technologies.
