Professor of the Graduate Program in Tourism and Heritage participates in technical visit to Mexico

Alissandra Nazareth de Carvalho, professor of the Graduate Program in Tourism and Heritage (PPGTURPATRI) in UFOP, represented the University on a technical visit to Mexico, in the states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo, along with the PPGTURPATRI student Anthony Thurner among other professors from the UNESCO Chair Network of Creative Economy and Public Policy. The purpose of the visit was to sign academic mobility agreements and promote actions of the chair, which include international cooperation projects and exchange of professional and academic experiences.

During the visit, several Mexican centers, institutes, universities, and agencies were visited, including the Center for Scientific Research of Yucatán (CICY), Universidad Modelo in Mérida, Universidad Anáhuac, Instituto del Emprendedor de Yucatán, and the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY).

The activities are aligned with the objectives of the project Analysis of Multilevel Governance and Sustainable Development in Creative Cities of Gastronomy by UNESCO, funded by the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Minas Gerais (Fapemig). The project is coordinated by Magnus Luiz Emmendoerfer, collaborating professor at PPGTURPATRI and a faculty member in the Federal University of Viçosa.

Alissandra described the experience as fruitful, highlighting the cultural similarities between Mexico and Brazil in areas such as symbology, ancestry, and narratives, elements that can help strengthen collaboration between the two countries. “We also expanded our network of contacts, which enables us to take part in boards, teach in graduate programs, develop joint cooperation agreement projects, promote academic mobility for professors and students, and participate in summer courses. It really broadens our possibilities, our field of action, and our mindset as well,” Alissandra added.
