UFOP student awarded for documentary at Belgian Film Festival

The UFOP student from the Journalism program, Anthony Christian Fernandes, participated in the POINT OF U Film Festival, which took place in Brussels (Belgium), and was awarded for International Best Factual with the short film "É assim que o fim se torna o início" (That’s the way the end becomes the beginning). The event featured competitive exhibitions, workshops and lectures on cinema and future possibilities for the area.

The film shows the experiences of Anthony's grandparents in the countryside of Minas Gerais state. For the student, due to the challenges faced, producing this documentary was decisive.

"Cinema, especially in Brazil, is not easy. It is a long journey of searching for knowledge, exchanges and many challenges. I myself have been trying to participate in film contests since 2018, but it's the first time I've been in and I'm awarded. Talking about my family, who are people that follow my entire journey, was very significant. They inspire me and this award is theirs, because I'm just a branch of their existence. And I try to show this in the film, creating this atmosphere of cycles and transformation", he reveals.

The Examination Committee included Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, directors of the sequel to the classic Bad Boys, the award-winning film Rebel, and Disney's Ms. Marvel series.
